Weathering the first step in the process of soil formation. The process of breaking up off the parent rocks into simple forms, is termed as weathering. The formation of soil is a very gradual and slow process. It takes millions of years for the rocks to become soil. The dead and decaying matter of plants and animals are also included in the rocks. Water, sun, climatic conditions and rain are some of the factors that effect weathering.
