In Chapter 14, we see that Kim and Huck found many valuable objects among the robbers' bounty. After night falls, the two of them begin to talk about their adventures. As tehy are talking, Jim tells Huck he does not want any more adventures, as they carry a lot of risk. Huck also tells Jim many stories of kings and queens, although Jim does not always believe what he hears.
In Chapter 15, as Huck is in a canoe on the Ohio River, he gets separated from Jim. he tries to paddle, but gets lost due to the fog. After a while, the two of them reunite, but Huck pretends that the whole thing was a dream, as Jim was asleep when they reunited. However, Jim discovers the truth and Huck apologizes.
In Chapter 16, Huck experiences regret about helping Jim escape from his owner. As he listens to Jim, Huck becomes more convinced that he will give him up. However, he changes his mind when Jim begins telling him how much he appreciates Huck and what a good friend he is. When some slve catchers want to inspect his boat, Huck lies and tells them the family on board has smallpox. After a series of incidents, the two get separated, and Huck makes it ashore and is cornered by a pack of dogs.
