The Hadly family was extremely spoiled and had everything. Their house was automated so everything that they wanted could be done right away. Their kids stayed in a high tech nursery that basically did everything that the parents could do without them doing it. They didn't even have to clean, it was all done by the house. So the parents prefered to keep them inside the nursery so it would give them less problems with the kids.
Unfortunately this backfired in the story, They're pretty spoiled and they get everything they want. When things don't go in their way, they get angry. I think that they could be better parents if they could start by stopping spoiling their kids and instead of giving them more time in the room, give them less time. They need to experience the world in a way where they aren't getting everything handed to them, and getting instant gratification. In the story it seems like when their kids disobey they just give them more of what they want besides taking it away. That's a problem, Because the kids need to learn discipline so that they learn that everything has a consequence.
