|4x+12|=16
solve
4x+12=16 and 4x+12=-16
minus 12 both sides
4x=4 and 4x=-28
divide both sides by 4
x=1 and x=-7
Okay, so basically all you need to do is combine like terms!
in this case, 4y and -3y are like terms... and -1 and 2 are like terms
so, 4y - 3y is 1y or y
and -1 + 2 is 1
so your simplified answer is y + 1
