numbers that are 10 times as much as or 1/10 of any given number. The place values in the pattern are: ones, tens (10*ones), hundreds (10*tens), thousands (10*hundreds),... So, 50 = 5 tens 5000= 5 thousands, 0 hundreds, 0 tens, 0 ones
