I believe it would be B, because there are two subjects that the speaker is referring to at the beginning of the sentence; the caterpillar and the leaf. When they use the word "it" in the second half of the sentence it is unclear whether they mean to say if "it" is the leaf or the caterpillar which they are carrying to their brother.
I would agree with you - the conclusion should leave readers with an important thought at the end.
This thought should never be new, or opposing to the previous ideas you had been writing before. It also shouldn't be confusing, but quite conversely - it should explain everything and put everything in place.

Answer: Being a somebody is like being popular. Most of the time popular people and somebodies are show-offs and follow really dumb trends and fads.
Explanation: This is because these people TRY to be cool or cooler by, like I said before, trends or fads. So really most of the time a somebody is just an overrated figure. One more piece, these people often have followers and other cronies. I couldn`t find the book, but I used my first hand encounters with these type of people.
