The equation creates what's called a parabola the line curves up the 1 represents the y axis so the line curves up from the y axis point 1 never touching the x axis
If you graph the equation you can see that it doesn't cross the x-axis. It doesn't go lower than y=1. If you don't have a graphing calculator use Desmos. Also the +1 at the end of the equation tells you that it won't go lower than y=1.
