For a line to be parallel, both lines need to be going at the same angle forever and never intersect. So if the slopes of the lines are equal, both of the lines would be at the same angle going the same direction. It does not matter where the lines are on the graph! It can be on top of the other line or far away from the other line, it just needs to have the same slope.
