Steps for solving:
Start by putting your x's together on the left side of the inequality by subtracting 2x from both sides to give you 6x - 6 > 12.
Next, put your numbers together on the right by
adding 6 to both sides and we have 6x > 18.
Divide both sides by 6 and <em>x > 3</em>.
I have also graphed x > 3 for you on a number line.
Just start with an open dot at 3 and we use an open dot because x > 3 but it is not equal to 3 and then we draw an arrow to the right on our number line to represent all numbers greater than 3.
Finally, you can write your answer
in set notation which is {x : x > 3}.
All this means is that if we take any number greater than 3 and plug it back in for <em>x</em> in our original problem, we will get a true statement.
In this problem, 5 is the only value that would make this inequality true because it's greater than 3.
