"The Brothers Karamazov" by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky is a philosophical novel about 19th century Russia. It deals deep into the ethical debates about God, free will, and even morality in the society.
In this novel, there is a big issue of spiritual drama regarding faith, doubts, judgement and reason in the Russian society that is currently evolving, and deals mainly on the issue of patricide. The character of Father Zosima epitomizes the image of a spiritual leader. He is the elder in the town, and sometimes admired but envied by the other monks in the village. He has the ability to perform some prophetic acts and healing that makes him seem like the local celebrity. He is the revered elder at the monastery and also a guardian for Alyosha. It was Alyosha's teachings constitutes the central ideas of the novel.
