Hence, Beowulf is our first hero who fought Grendel, the devil who had unleashed terror upon the inmates of Heorot, the great hall. Both Beowulf and Grendel became the hero and villain for the generations of writers and poets to create such characters and to show how goodness and virtue win over vice and wickedness.
