In this event, the he tried to fight the racism that was existing in the country especially in the sporting discipline. Although he was very much against racism, he was never to show his dissporval publicly as it brought upon the offender harsh criticism and consequences, sometimes imprisonment. In his experience with the Major League Baseball, he received a mixed reception because of his racial background - some people supported him. Others, the majority of them discriminated against him.
