When an individual is under stress, exposed to trauma , perturbed, which manifested as heightened anxiety, the process of calming the person down to regain concentration, focus, open to suggestions and to placate the situation generally is called hypnosis.
It is used as an effective therapy -hypnotherapy to calm down a patient who about to undergo surgery or delicate medical procedure, used to reduce both acute and chronic pains, as part of programme to reduce body weights or manage smoking addiction, <u> </u><u>but not effective for individuals with mental illness.</u>
Hypnosis is a state, in which a state similar to trance is induced, which resembles sleep. In this state, the patient is more prone to follow suggestions and directions given by the hypnotist. During this state, a person is more focused on the suggestions provided to him.
