Proprioceptors are sensors that functions as sensory receptors giving information about muscle tension, muscle length, and joint angle, which is combined to provide information about the location of the limb in space. The proprioceptors are mainly located in the muscles, tendons, and skin. Types of proprioceptors include; (i) muscle spindle; which detects changes in muscle length, (ii) Golgi tendon organs; which detects changes in muscle tension, and (iii) pacinian corpuscles; which detects changes in pressure.
