Glycolysis is a process involving reactions that convert glucose to pyruvate. During glycolysis one glucose molecule is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate in the cytoplasm. The process creates two pyruvates molecules, two molecules of ATP are used, however, four are created making the net energy produced to be two molecules of ATP.
