He gives a reason for this that from innocence the forefathers "grew" their safety rather than by "power and genius" perhaps meaning that having a good heart and meaning well for other people results in more "safety" in life than "power and genius" which brings to mind the demise of Conrad Black who sought Power and Genius I would say (perhaps as an addiction to power) that it led him to break the law and end up in jail.

In this answer, I am picking the Disney movie "Hercules" to answer this question.
In this movie, we see that Hercules exemplifies many of the qualities that we expect to find in epic heroes. One example of this is the fact that Hercules fights a great variety of beasts and monsters in order to prove his strength, his goodness and his courage. Another quality Hercules has is the fact that he has some supernatural qualities that humans do not have, such as unusual strength. Finally, Hercules is an epic hero because he undergoes a journey that humans do not usually undertake and that he can only fulfill because of his supernatural qualities. This is the journey to the underworld in order to save the woman he loves.
