Medicine and military-related terms are two trends that contain many loanwords that originate from Latin. This is the case due to several reasons. First, a lot of our knowledge of medicine and the military comes from Classical Western culture (Greece and Rome) either directly, or through the Muslim World. Second, many of the terms we use originated in the French language, and were then adopted to English. As French is a romance language, it has a strong Latin influence and a very high number of loanwords.
