<em>The Divine Comedy </em>is the most famous work of author Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), an Italian poet, prose writer and political thinker. <em>The Divine Comedy</em> imagines Dante's journey to Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. These experiences are described in three canticles. There are 33 cantos in each canticle, plus an additional canto in Inferno that serves as an introduction.
