<em>"The White Man´s Burden" </em>is a poem by Victorian poet Rudyard Kipling. The poem explores the theme of colonization, urging American people to go to the foreign lands and colonize people. For the author, colonization is the necessary "burden" of the white race. White people must civilize black people in order to help them. However, black people usually do not understand this concept, and they often hate their colonizers instead of being thankful.
The reader will feel the tension immeditaely after just starting to read, allowing questions and tension to form so the reader will question about what happens before the action. By the way, in media res is when the author starts the story in the middle instead of the beginning.
If the writer has something valuable to say about life or how to live it, conflict is a great tool to show these competing viewpoints. Conflict introduces opposing belief systems, wants, or goals not just to entertain the viewer, but to show the character another worldview.
i'd say it's okay to tell ghost stories to children as long as they aren't too graphic. Ghost stories can be fun to tell around the campfire and stuff.
