Identify the dependent variable as either increasing, decreasing, or unchanged as the independent variable increases. It is possible to have no relationship shown on the graph.

Depending on which way the scattered points go. If it goes up to the right it is positive or down to the left is negative. If the points are all willy-nilly then there is no coloration.
