On the other hand, Rachel Carson was a marine biologist, author and conservationist who published a book called Silent Spring (1962). The book led to a ban on damaging pesticides, such as DDT, as well as to the rise of the environmental movement and the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Both of these women were interested in changing the social reality of the United States. They were both committed to making a change in their society, and took interest in the political issues of their time.
