Ichabod Crane is the main character in Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Ichabod is an average man, tall and lanky. He is the local schoolmaster, and is in love with the heiress Katrina Van Tassel. Towards the end of the story, after proposing to Katrina, Ichabod is chased by the headless horseman and disappears.
