Add up the amount of miles she actually reached to

2.4 + 3.1 =

5.5 = miles already traveled

And then subtract it from the 8 mile trail

8 - 5.5 =

2.5 miles

About 2.5 or 3 miles (rounded to the tenth or whole number?)
