The center of the Gondwana supercontinent was Antarctica as it shared boundaries with all the continents. During the Jurassic period about 180 million years ago, it started to break up. South America and Africa were split away from Australia and Antarctica. The last continents to split were Australia and Antarctica.

Gondwana and Laurasia combined to form the Pangaea supercontinent during the Carboniferous period.
